My Glasgow Kitchen

My Little Corner of the World

Using mash potato instead of buttercream to practice piping is more affordable. Besides, it does not attract sugar ants to the kitchen.

I read online that some in baking school used powdered mash potato to pipe but it did not occur to me that I can just use fresh potatoes.

Last christmas, I made a few types of vegetable mash and just ‘blended’ the potatoes. It was way too starchy and mashed up. However, the consistency would be great for piping.

1.Remove skin from mash potato

2. Cut potato into pieces and steam it

3. Blend it into desired consistency in the food processor.

4. Add food colouring and mix it.

5. Transfer it to a piping bag

6. Happy practising!

After piping, Piglet and I had it for our dinner. We used it as a rice replacement for a Chinese meal.
