My Little Corner of the World

Several months ago, I had one of my favourite soups; lotus root soup in a relative’s place and really liked it. It had a type of umami sweetness that was so hard to describe. I noticed that it had an ingredient that I have not come across before in lotus root soup.

After asking around, I found out that it was Solomon’s seal Rhizome (Yu Zhu). Apparently there are a lot of health benefits according to traditional chinese medicine.

Since then, I have been adding it to my lotus root soup. It might seem expensive for such a small packet but a little goes a long way.
