My Glasgow Kitchen

My Little Corner of the World

Piglet and the contractor went to the light shop to purchased basic lighting for the house two years ago. He described it ‘like a market’, with ‘numbering system’ and there is ‘queues everywhere’.

I was really curious and was keen to go this time around…

The process of purchasing our lights and fan:

1. Parking- Double and triple parking in front of the shop but there are ample parking the next street.

2. Salesperson allocation on entry- Given a number for the salesperson. They wore shirts with numbers.

3. Viewing on our own- Viewed, made a list and took note of questions to ask later. ~ 40 minutes.

4. Look for the salesperson- Found the salesperson at the last shop lot with another customer. ~ 5 minutes. Another salesperson that was available approached us.

5. Order- He showed us the items and scribbled down a list of things I ordered. ~ 10 minutes. Given a number with a wristband.

6. Submit order- Waited at shoplot 3 counter for 5 minutes for data entry. Given the ‘final number’ slip.

7. Quality Control- Waited at the quality control express counter at shoplot 1 for 5 minutes. They showed us the items ordered and tested it. Some could not be tested and was advised to come back if it was not working within the warranty period.

8. Payment- Waited at shoplot 2 for another 5 minutes for payment.

9. Collection- Collected our items at the entrance of the shop and handed them the ‘final number’ slip given to us.

After being given 3 sets of numbers, queuing, waiting many rounds and going through 4 counters, we finally bought our lights and fan. That was a tiring process.
